Hi. I believe MGA2020 is not available in Bentley Map V8i SS4, it seems to only be available in CONNECT Edition versions of Microstation and Bentley Map.

This page contains information about V8i and CONNECT Editions: version numbers, release dates, CONNECT Licensing, V8i dependencies and V8i prerequisites. The CONNECT Editions of Bentley Map are being renamed as OpenCities Map. CONNECT Edition generation: The following table lists Bentley Map CONNECT Editions which are built with the PowerPlatform. PowerPlatform is the MicroStation core application that underlies the CONNECT Edition products that are based on MicroStation. Once a feature or fix is added to the Power Platform, it's available to all the applications based on PowerPlatform. This has increased consistency between applications, is fundamental to Bentley's update strategy and is part of an ongoing plan to unify similar tools and functions across Bentley applications. Important note regarding Bentley Map for MicroStation: Beginning with the CONNECT Edition, Bentley Map is now a standalone product and is not available as a layered application for MicroStation. For further information, please refer to the question How can I upgrade from V8i to CONNECT Edition? in the CONNECT Edition FAQ Important note regarding licensing: Beginning with Bentley Map CONNECT Edition x64 10.02.00.xx , licensing will be handled with CONNECT Licensing which does not use activation keys. Product with CONNECT Licensing is indicated with (CL). To enhance security, the licensing requires that you become registered in User Management and then sign in with those credentials to access the application. Click here for more information on CONNECT Licensing. For detailed instructions on the user registration and sign-in process, click here . Dates are in month/day/year format. Date Release Notes 11/22/2018 Bentley Map CONNECT Edition x64 (CL) 10.02.00.18 Update 2 Resolved Issues 07/31/2018 Bentley Map CONNECT Edition x64 10.01.00.22 Update 1 Resolved Issues 03/16/2018 Bentley Map CONNECT Edition x64 10.00.00.30 V8i generation: The following tables lists the Bentley Map V8i versions with their corresponding MicroStation versions they were released with. It's important to combine the Map V8i (SELECTseries) "For MicroStation" edition with its corresponding MicroStation version. This allows you to take advantage of changes that were introduced into each product during the update cycle. V8i (SELECTseries) generation products should be installed together. However, within (SELECTseries) product release, newer versions of Map are compatible with older versions of MicroStation. In some cases, older versions of Map are compatible with newer versions of MicroStation. To maintain the integrity and supported functionality, the corresponding version of MicroStation should be installed at the same time. Dates are in month/day/year format. I only have access to v8i but I have contacts that have connect edition and also bentley map so if there are files to be copied we can do that. What I want is instructions on how to create the GDA2020 ( mga2020) zone 55 datum by export from map to be able to add it to Microstation V8i ss4 manually and be able to have msnt v8iss4 recognise the datum and use it to trans form GDA94 dgns to GDA2020. BTW Were in Australia We cannot use CE in our office, I dont have CE nor do I have map in a past life I had map and was told if I didn't have a datum in v8i, I could create a custom one in map and export it for use in V8i... so why cant we do that for gda2020(mga2020(z54)?

Import a polygon collection from an ESRI geodatabase that ends up creating complex shape elements in the dgn file. Mine have no voids or islands but do have complex shapes with lines and arcs that make up the polygon. But, I have faced some trouble while creating this. With the help of this site https://globalcool.org/computer-data-recovery-and-ways-to-retrieve-lost-files/ I was able to resolve the problem and succeed in creating a dgn file.

Hi Lorys, For the benefit of others, I was able to get the CE Update 11 GDA2020 Geographic Coordinate System files to v8i (SS4) by the steps below: I activated Bentley Map (included with Civil products) to copy the CE GDA2020 GCS entries into a Custom Geographic Coordinate System library (treated like an upgrade - https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/bentley%20map%20help-v2/en/GUID-8B7AA47A-4DA2-8E97-A7BB-2033750877A1.html ) Copied datum.dty from CE and updated GenGridToWgs84.gdc to read MGA2020 shift files ) https://communities.bentley.com/products/geospatial/desktop/f/bentley-map-forum/106540/make-custom-shift-grid ). I then added the MS_GEOCOORDINATE_USERLIBRARIES variable to my workspace to read the custom dty files on startup. Here are the Geographic Coordinate System Custom Library files that go in your "C:\Program Files (x86)\Bentley\MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries)\MicroStation\GeoCoordinateData\" folder and some info about variables to add to you configuration: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tqjlvo21c55n0z8/MS_v8i_GDA2020.zip?dl=0 Please note that Map is only required to change co-ordinate system data not to read custom data so all should be fine. These files produced identical results for the same dataset between CE and v8i so i'm pretty confident it works well, but suggest some testing before using on project data.

It is possible to create custom datums and custom geographic coordinate systems in v8i SS3 and over, however to create these you need Bentley Map functionality. Once the user-defined coordinate systems are created then these can be used in any v8i SS3 and more Power Product. In the case of the GDA2020 datum, it is quite easy to create. This datum is to be considered coincident to WGS84 over Australia (non transformation). The problem, however, is not defining this datum but rather a new version of GDA94 that will apply the correct transformation. The older GDA94 used to be considered coincident with WGS84 but after the various linear and non-linear movements of the Australian sub-continent it is not to be considered the case. The most accurate transformation from GDA94 to GDA2020 relies on the application of a grid shift file in the NTv2 format. It is not possible to define a user-defined datum using this type of transformation. User-defined datum can only use simple transformations (Geocentric [3-parameter] or Coordinate Frame/Position Vector [7-parameter]). There exist such a 7-parameter transformation from GDA94 to GDA2020 and this particular transformation can be user-defined in v8i (with Bentley Map). Here are the parameters if this is the avenue you want to persue. USE: 7PARAMETER DELTA_X: 0.06155 DELTA_Y: -0.01087 DELTA_Z: -0.04019 ROT_X: -0.00394924 ROT_Y: -0.0327221 ROT_Z: -0.0328979 BWSCALE: -0.009994 To use the more accurate NTv2 based transformation CONNECT edition is necessary.

so we can use these files in v8i to reproject attach xrefs on the fly that are old datum like gda94 ontop of active new file with gda2020 cgs embeded when I open new dgn can we then define the Gda2020 cgs from the tool box and library in v8i?

Yep, there are now 3 additional GCS libraries in addition to the delivered one attached for GDA2020 when you add that variable to your configuration.

I understand that I need Bentley Map to do this but after several attempts across several different version I can never get it to copy a coordinate system or have the edit option when I right click on them. I always just have copy and add to favorites. I have tried this on in the Latest OpenCities, Openroads SS4 with map activated, Inroads SS3 with map activated, and PowerMap V8i. Please Help. I would like to create a new local coordinate system that will be available across several Bentley products in particular ContextCapture and OpenRoads CE.I would do this in Openroads Connect Edition but it seems that they removed any map functions when it went to Connect Edition. This is why I have downloaded pervious/current versions of Bentley Map to create a new coordinate system.

The steps required to copy, edit, and customize a Geographic Coordinate System are specified in the Editing Coordinate Systems chapter of the Bentley Map Help document and this article: https://communities.bentley.com/products/geospatial/desktop/w/geospatial_desktop__wiki/9002/--add-datum-ellipsoid-or-custom-coordinate-system . Have a look at the steps and I will contact you directly to provide assistance. Dan

Thank You I have got it and was able to copy and edit now. I was unware that I needed to first setup the MS_GEOCOORDINATE_USERLIBRARIES first. I do however now have a another question as the custom coordinate system that I need to setup needs to use the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD) 1929 for its vertical datum. See that you can change this after selecting the coordinate system and clicking the info/about to get the Geographic System Properties. Under the Coordinate System Modifiers, vertical datum. However it is in NAVD 88 and when I select NGVD 29 nothing happens and it doesn't change. Its as if it is locked on 88

Forum Post: New GDA2020 Geocoordinate Systems in CE - how does it work?

Hi, Can someone explain how the newly added Projected Australian GDA2020 GCS works in Microstation CE U11? We have the old GDA94 GCS group, a new GDA94-7P (7 Parameter Transformation to 2020), GDA94/GSB (GDA94 to 2020 using Grid Shift files) and a plain GDA2020 GCS group. If I reproject the data from the old GDA94 to the GDA-7P or GDA95/GSB GCS settings my data moves as expected, however nothing happens if I go from the old GDA94 to the new GDA2020. How is this supposed to work? Regards, Mark

It could be that, based on the Coordinate System in your DGN File, you might need to temporarily switch to a system that is based on NAD27, which provides access to the NGVD29 datum? Here's how it was explained to me: For most Geographic Coordinate Systems you only have two choices which are From Datum and Geoid but if the datum is NAD27 then you have access to NGVD29 and if the datum is one of the variation of NAD83 (NSRS07, NAD83/2011, HARN, HPGN, ..) then you have access to NAVD88 (the later US vertical datum). The conversion between these vertical datum the file uses the file Vertcon.gdc which should already be set correctly. The Vertical (or 3D) reprojection must also be set in the Geographic Coordinate System setting.
